Marker Training using a ‘Clicker’ or a ‘Verbal Marker’
Marker training can be used with an 8-week young puppy or a 8-year-old. The beauty of the system is that it's non-confrontational, which is why it works so well with dogs or animals with absolutely no training or animals that need to be retrained. The fact is Marker Training works on most types of animals and birds.
Clicker Training is Marker Training. The only difference is using a click instead of a verbal marker. A Clicker is a small mechanical device which pinpoints good behavior.
Using a Clicker that makes a short, distinct "click" sound wich tells the animal exactly when they are doing the right thing. This clear form of communication between a human who communicates verbally and animals who mostly communicate visually. Think of it that your teaching your dog a foreign language. Combined with a reward it is an effective, safe and humane way to teach any animal any behaviour that is physically and mentally capable of doing. The more consistent the Marker is used, the faster the dog will learn. Rewarding after each click makes the behavior desirable.
